Closing the gap on diversity and gender bias by creating an inclusive environment that fosters athletic talent and leadership development as well as the acquisition of formal education to sustain livelihoods in and out of the sporting sector for youth and communities in underserved areas.
The Caster Semenya Foundation, a non-profit organisation, was established in 2016 under the leadership of Caster and Violet Semenya. Through combining education and sport development, the Caster Semenya Foundation empowers youth and communities from disadvantaged societies to discover their athletic prowess, build leadership capabilities and be nurtured to their full potential.
Born and raised in rural communities, the founders Caster and Violet Semenya, understand the barriers to entry for individuals from impoverished areas. They do not view sport as a recreation, but as a vehicle for exposure to the global community, athletic talent development and leadership training.
The Caster Semenya Foundation envisions itself grooming top athletes who are passionate about sport and want to develop their talent to make a great success out of it; and beyond. The foundation's objective is to close the gap on diversity and
gender bias in athletics by creating an inclusive environment that fosters athletic and leadership prowess. The effects thereof will be felt by the communities the participants hail from and will make a positive difference to the participants of the programmes.
It is not everyone that can become a professional athlete and even those who do, their careers will come to an end at some point. They will need other avenues to fall back on and this is where the Caster Semenya Foundation aims to bridge the gap. Through combining education and sport, disadvantaged societies will have an opportunity to discover their athletic talent, build leadership capabilities, be nurtured to their full potential and use the education gained to sustain their livelihoods beyond
athletics.
The Masai Athletics provides tools and resources including access to health professionals and specialised athletics services to help runners reach optimum performance.
The Caster Semenya Training Group focuses on Youth middle- and long distance runner development as well as provision of study
bursaries and race sponsorships to assist participants in and out of the athletics field.
Full time athletic academy for girls and women aged between 13 and 25 years that provides bursaries, lodging, food, transportation, access to additional services, race sponsorships and more in support of the participant's growth in the sport.
