The Masai Awards serve to acknowledge the exceptional dedication, performance, and excellence exhibited by our athletes throughout the year. The 2024 awards, held in November, witnessed an extraordinary display of talent and achievement, further solidifying the stellar contributions of our athletes.
Looking back on 2024, a sense of awe washes over us as we contemplate the remarkable achievements of the Masai Athletics Development Clubs and the Caster Semenya Foundation. This past year has been a tapestry woven with threads of groundbreaking successes and inspiring stories, a testament to the dedication and perseverance of our athletes and the unwavering support of our community.
A significant milestone in 2024 was the establishment of the Masai Athletics Club (AC) Vaal, expanding our family and opening doors for more talented young athletes in the Vaal region. Each branch has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, representing the club with distinction at provincial, national, and international competitions. The addition of the new branch brings our development clubs to four consisting of:
* Masai AC Limpopo
* Masai AC Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA)
* Masai AC Athletics Gauteng North (AGN)
* Masai AC Vaal

On the provincial stage, Masai AC athletes garnered an impressive 35 medals. At the national level, 86 athletes proudly represented the club in cross-country competitions, securing 1 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medals, along with numerous top 5 and top 10 finishes.
Our ultra-marathon runners, Thomas Ndlovu and Ramoroa Molose, achieved remarkable success at the Comrades Marathon, securing silver and bronze medals respectively.
Furthermore, Zinzi Chabangu, who represented South Africa at the African Championships, set a new national triple jump record.
Lee Sue Nyathi, our Junior Athlete of the Year at the 6th Annual Masai Athletics Awards, excelled both academically and athletically. She claimed provincial CGA championships in the U/18 5000m walk, secured national titles in the U/20 10km and U/20 10,000m events, and represented South Africa at the World Race Walking Championships in Turkey, achieving a new personal best of 51:50.
We believe that education empowers individuals and unlocks their full potential. Through collaborative partnerships, we are proud to have assisted numerous of our athletes with scholarships and education bursaries, covering both basic education and tertiary studies. This commitment to academic excellence ensures that our athletes not only excel on the field but also have the tools and knowledge to succeed beyond their athletic careers.
We are unwavering in our dedication to empowering young athletes from marginalised communities, providing them with the opportunities they truly deserve to thrive both academically and athletically.
The Caster Semenya Foundation through its various programmes remains steadfast in its commitment to:
Empower Women: We will continue to create a supportive and inclusive environment for female athletes, providing them with equal opportunities to excel at all levels of competition. We will champion initiatives that address the unique challenges faced by female athletes and ensure their voices are heard and valued.
Develop Youth: We are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of athletic talent. We will invest in youth development programs that provide access to quality coaching, training facilities, and educational resources, fostering a love for sport and healthy living among young people in our communities.
Nurture Elite Athletes: We will continue to provide world-class support to our elite athletes, helping them reach their full potential on the international stage. This includes access to top-tier coaching, sports science expertise, and the necessary resources to compete at the highest level.
Invest in Infrastructure and Support Services: We recognise the importance of a strong foundation for athletic successand will thus, continue to invest in improving our training facilities, ensuring access to quality equipment and technology. We will also prioritise the development of comprehensive support services for our athletes, including sports medicine, nutrition, and mental health support.
Support Coach Development: We understand that coaches play a vital role in the development of our athletes and will continue to invest in coach education and professional development programs, empowering them with the knowledge and skills to guide our athletes to success.
